Henley Half Marathon History

The Henley Half Marathon  completed its 25 th event in 08 having started in 1984. The event has traditionally been associated with the RNLI Appeal for which it has generated substantial funds. The event has in the early years, been supported by well over 1000 runners, a volume that we have just returned to in 2002. In recent years the event has been organised by The Rotary Club of Henley Bridge supported by numerous organisations and individuals to whom we are extremely grateful. In 2005 some 1800 runners participated, and in 2006 over 2000, as in 07 and 08.

The Fun Run was commenced later and is a less demanding course run over the first part of the Half Marathon course. This year (08) we have converted the event into a 10K.

The event always needs supporters willing to devote a couple of hours on a Sunday morning, for stewarding on the course, and these will be made most welcome. Anyone interested should contact Ian McGaw 01491578042 or one of the officers of the Rotary Club.
